On the other hand, steel is a compound of iron and carbon. And it can be combined and processed with different metal and non-metallic elements. For example, durable steel is usually galvanized or coated with galvalume. The latter means soaking steel in a mixture of aluminum, silicon, and zinc. Meanwhile, galvanized steel means it is zinc-coated. The thickness of coats, whether galvalume or galvanized, is called gauge. The higher the gauge, the sturdier steel will become to withstand corrosive elements. Galvanized steel is typically for the skin of a vehicle or building. 

The proportion in steel components is also pivotal to its qualities and usage. Low carbon creates mild steel (0.05 to 0.25%), which is weldable or machinable and magnetic. Mild steel fences and beams are some essential parts of steel-framing constructions.

In summary, the differences between the two are how they are created and the number of components involved. Metal is a naturally occurring material, while steel is a compound of two or more elements. 

Steel can not be formed or enhanced without natural metallic elements. However, steel is more valuable because it has better properties. No wonder several products are steel-made, like vehicles, kitchen utensils, and construction tools. On the other hand, additives can further enhance steel’s usefulness. For example, stainless steel is an alloy of iron, copper, chromium, nickel, or other metals. The products made from this are commonly easy to clean, fire and heat resistant, non-corrosive, attractive, and durable. 

Steel’s properties also make it more valuable than other materials in construction. It doesn’t warp and burns like wood and demands a toiling replacement effort compared to bricks.
